memento mori
— Folio I · The Opening Page

Within these bound leaves lie stories that should have remained unwritten.

"Some books bleed when opened."

Bractquill is a manuscript-horror studio. We craft games that feel like reading a forbidden tome — each page turned reveals a new dread, a new beauty, a new truth best left buried.

Six Folios of Dread

Each game is a chapter in our growing grimoire. Some are cautionary tales. Others are confessions.

i.
Cursed

The Ink that Wept

A scholar's desk. A quill that writes on its own. Each word drains a memory from your mind. Stop writing, or lose yourself entirely.

"I did not write these words. They wrote me."
ii.
Gothic

Vellum Bones

A monastery where the monks bind their sins into book-covers made of their own skin. You arrive to catalog. You stay to atone.

"Every cover has a name. Every name was once a man."
iii.
Folk-Horror

The Marginalia Choir

Creatures drawn in the margins of medieval manuscripts step off the page. They sing. They hunger. They know your name.

"The margins are where truth hides from the text."
iv.
Cursed

Red Letter Days

A calendar where each saint's day is replaced by a victim's name. Cross one off. The day ends. The person doesn't.

"Saint never lived. The name was always yours."
v.
Gothic

The Librarian's Cut

A library where books are alive and resent being read. The Librarian offers you a choice: read one, or become one.

"The stacks are full. We need new shelf-space."
vi.
In Manuscript

Quill & Ash

Our next work. A tale of a scribe who writes fires into existence. Each chapter burns the last. The only way forward is through flame.

"I write, therefore I burn."
— The Scriptorium's Doctrine

Three Illuminations

What guides the hand that writes in shadow.

The Weight of Ink

Every word in our games carries consequence. Write carefully. Read closely. The text is never neutral.

Beauty in the Macabre

Horror, to us, is a form of reverence. We find the sacred in the grotesque, the divine in the damned.

Text as Mechanism

Words are not just read — they are tools, weapons, locks, keys. The page is a puzzle. The book is a trap.

— The Studio Chronicle

Years in Marginalia

A record kept not in dates, but in dedications and errata.

2018

The First Quill

Bractquill founded in a repurposed church library in Providence, Rhode Island. Two writers, one illustrator, and a box of stolen ecclesiastical stationery.

2020

The Ink that Wept

Debut. A typing-horror experiment. Players reported deleting their own documents in sympathy. We sent them new ones.

2021

Vellum Bones

Our darkest work. A meditation on penance, bound in digital skin. The cover art was printed on actual parchment. Limited run sold out in hours.

2022

The Marginalia Choir

A folk-horror anthology. Each story unlocked by "reading" between the lines of a shared manuscript. Critics called it "a new liturgy of dread."

2024

Red Letter Days

A calendar-based horror. Real-world dates trigger in-game events. Some players refused to play on their birthday. We considered that a success.

2025

The Scriptorium Expands

Moved into a larger archive. Added a letterpress. Now we print our own promotional broadsides. They smell of oil and iron.

2026

Quill & Ash

In development. A fire-writing game. The more you play, the less remains. We are burning the manuscript as we write this.

Send a Missive
